The patient at the heart of the development of Coolsculpting® Elite
Coolsculpting® Elite development was born out of a user-centered "Research & Development" approach. Clive Heke, Vice President of Allergan Aesthetic US explains, "We spoke with patients around the world to understand what they liked most about Coolsculpting® today, but more importantly, what improvements they wanted. »
In aesthetics, patients are looking for results, safety, comfort, and they want to be able to return to their activities immediately afterward. Coolsculpting already meets each of these criteria and Coolsculpting® Elite is going even further!
What's new about Coolsculpting® Elite
The new Coolsculpting® Elite has a number of innovations that further enhance its effectiveness.
An articulated arm with two applicators at the same time
Coolsculpting® Elite allows two applicators to be connected simultaneously. The ability to treat 2 areas with overlaps applicators reduces the treatment time. This will change the treatment protocols in a positive way for the patient by increasing the treated areas to be a little more efficient.
Larger applicators with better contact
The new applicators come in seven different shapes and sizes and cover areas almost 20% larger. Each applicator has been designed to follow the natural curves of the body and allow proper contact with the skin.
This is important because we know that a perfect contact between the skin and the bottom of the applicator is necessary for the cryolipolysis technique to be really effective. The cooling now comes from everywhere and it cools faster.
This better contact will make it possible to treat the very small percentage of patients who have a good indication but who do not get a good results. We have always thought that it was due to bad contact of the applicator. A hint of optimism! When the applicators are removed, the erythema is extremely homogeneous, whereas it was not the case with the old Coolsculpting® applicators. It was more in the center than in the periphery.
The rigidity of the edges has also been reduced so that the applicator can better take the bulges. The patient does not have the impression of losing the applicators. They seem to hold better. Perhaps this reflects the fact that it captures the fat roll better. However, you should not start treating very large bulges. Cryolipolysis is the equivalent of small liposuction, which is already a lot considering it's not invasive.
With less pressure and a slightly shorter treatment time, and therefore fewer mechanical factors, it is a promising advance to avoid the side effect of paradoxical hyperplasia. What is it? A patient is treated and three months later has a 20% increase in the bulge. A Canadian study showed that with the first Coolsculpting® devices, we had an incidence that was 1 in 1000. In 2017, after a first modification of the applicators, we went down to 1 in 2000. We hope that with the new Elite applicators, there will be a further decrease in this side effect, which is not yet well understood.
There are some pain phenomena that are extremely minor. You can work afterward and return to your activities. You just have to remember to dress in a comfortable way, avoiding clothes that are too tight.
A faster result
All patients treated with Coolsculpting® Elite had visible results after one and a half months, whereas it is usually necessary to wait two or two months and a half. It is, therefore, more effective and faster.
