Underarm hair removal
Underarm hair removal is an intervention to virtually eliminate hair under the arms. In general, underarm hair is considered a sign of letting go however, underarm hair removal has the advantage of limiting the odor of perspiration. Indeed, shaved armpits retain fewer odors.
To proceed with underarm hair removal, the ideal is to have very clear skin and dark hair. However, tan or dark skin may also be suitable for this procedure although the intensity of the laser will be lower.
In general, underarm hair is very receptive to laser hair removal because the hair is very pigmented and full of melanin and can be destroyed in just a few sessions.
Underarm hair removal: the session
The regrowth under the armpits is quite slow, the sessions are spaced from 8 to 10 weeks. It usually takes between 6 and 8 sessions of underarm hair removal for optimal results. Each session lasts about 10 minutes.
Before an underarm hair removal, a first consultation with a medical specialist is necessary and allows him to know your ancestry, but also your expectations concerning this intervention. It is also an opportunity for him to examine your skin and your hair to determine the number of sessions and the intensity of the laser needed during your hair removal process.
The day of your first session, the practitioner checks your skin and your armpits. If they are not properly shaved, he may have to do it himself. To avoid feeling pain during the session, he applies a numbing cream beforehand to your armpits.
Then, he gives you protective glasses that you must wear during the session. He proceeds to the setting of the laser and to control the intensity, he conducts a test on a small part of your body. When you experience needle-like pain, the laser is properly adjusted.
He then proceeds to scan the area using a handpiece that will emit light pulses. The doctor will pay attention to the possible presence of any fluff on the inner side of the arm.
The skin at this point of the body is very thin. You may have redness in the hours following the session. After the session, the doctor applies a cream (Biaphine or Cicalfate) to avoid irritation. It is advisable to avoid putting deodorant on directly after the session because the skin can be sensitive for a few hours.

Underarm hair removal: the results
The hairs under the armpits become progressively thinner and regrowth becomes scarce. At the end of the treatment, approximately 90% of the hairs do not regrow however, annual maintenance sessions are expected to keep the benefits of laser hair removal.

Hello I have some questions!! I want to know if that is there any side effects of laser hair removal.. like some skin disease ? And can you get ingrown hairs from doing laser treatment?
In reply to Hello I have some questions!… by Kimberley HL
Hi Kimberley,
The most common side effect of laser hair removal is skin irritation (redness) that fades away within a few hours post-treatment. To avoid other more severe side effects, it is important to have a consultation prior to any laser treatment to check your background and see if laser hair removal is suitable to your skin and health.
