Wrinkles are those relentless little folds that come with age. Everyone fears them and would like to get rid of them by using more or less effective creams.
Today, aesthetic medicine offers many treatments to get rid of wrinkles. Whether it is Botox, hyaluronic acid, or the injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), there are many treatments to fight wrinkles. But how do wrinkles appear and how can you successfully get rid of them?
Wrinkles: what are they?
Wrinkles are the small creases that appear on the skin due to a loss of elasticity, firmness and lack of moisture in the skin tissue. Over time, the production of collagen and elastin slows down creating wrinkles in the elastin fibres and in the natural folds of the skin.
Wrinkle filling is a suitable method for static wrinkles. These are ageing or static wrinkles that appear with age and the natural loosening of the skin. This is the case, for example, with wrinkles in the nasolabial fold, which extend from the wings of the nose to the corners of the mouth, but also with folds from the corner of the mouth to the chin.
Wrinkles: what causes them?
Wrinkles appear as a result of a combination of several factors:
- They can be due to the natural ageing of the skin when the rate of cell regeneration slows down. The first wrinkles can appear as early as the thirties and become more pronounced over the years.
- Stress can also precipitate the appearance of wrinkles. Stress hormones can have a negative effect on skin cells and therefore have an oxidative effect on our body.
- The reduction of certain hormones, especially during menopause can also be the cause of wrinkles.
- Some external factors are also responsible for the appearance of wrinkles such as the sun. Ultraviolet rays slow down the production of elastin, which gives the skin its firmness and elasticity.
- Tobacco can also accelerate the skin's ageing process. Substances contained in cigarettes can break down hyaluronic acid, which helps to hydrate the skin. They also affect the vascular system that facilitates tissue irrigation.
- Lack of hydration is also a factor in the appearance of wrinkles.
When the skin is dehydrated, wrinkles tend to form more quickly and be more pronounced. - Lack of sleep can also affect the appearance of wrinkles and contribute to the acceleration of skin ageing.
Static wrinkles: how to combat them?
Wrinkles can be combatted by filler injections such as hyaluronic acid, a substance that absorbs water and fills creases, or with "tissue inducers" such as Radiesse® and Ellansé®.
Tissue inducers and hyaluronic acid are complementary due to the way they behave so it is possible to combine them in a comprehensive treatment plan for facial rejuvenation over several sessions.
