Thigh lift surgery (or cruroplasty) removes excess skin on the inner thighs. This lift surgery helps to firm up and tone the upper section of the thighs.
Indication: Distended skin
Sagging skin on the thighs is due to two main causes: progressive ageing or significant weight loss. When making a diagnosis, the surgeon will take into account the morphology of the thighs, including the extent of any excess fat, skin quality and muscle tone.
Thigh lift surgery can be combined with a body lift, an operation that removes excess skin on the middle third of the body in one go.
How the procedure works
Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anaesthetic with one overnight stay in hospital and lasting almost two hours.
The procedure is carried out in several steps.:
Fat suction
All the excess fat around the inner thighs is sucked out. Only the excess skin that has not retracted following liposuction of the thighs is then removed.
Ablation of excess skin
There are two incision techniques depending on the extent of skin sagging.
- Moderate skin excess: There will be a horizontal scar near the groin fold that extends to the buttock fold. This scar will be completely hidden by your underwear.
- Significant skin excess: There will be a T-shaped scar comprised of a horizontal scar with a more or less long vertical scar on the inner surface of the thigh.
At the end of the procedure, the practitioner applies the stitches and then applies a dressing.
Post-operative effects
Thigh lift surgery only causes a moderate amount of pain. It is most often limited to a slight feeling of tightness. The dressing will be removed the day after the operation. There will be bruising and swelling for two to three weeks. The patient must wear compression underwear day and night for 1 month.
The stitches will be removed after two weeks. Work can be resumed after seven to ten days and sports after the second month. Any changes in thigh sensitivity that sometimes occur disappear after a few months.
Results for a thigh lift
Results after thigh lift surgery are immediately visible and become permanent after three months. The entire upper thighs are thinned out and reshaped with much firmer skin.
The scar will finally settle after one year.
